About the Artist

Kristine’s watercolor paintings and watercolor pencil pieces are inspired by Midwest lakes and wooded areas, and by her own rock garden.  The hallmarks of her paintings are their intriguing textures, vibrant colors, and evocative interplay of realism and abstraction.

“All of my senses come into play at once when I’m painting,” Kristine says. “Texture, sound, taste, scent, all contribute to seeing.” She also credits her background as a Zen Buddhist with inspiring her work. “Nature is a big part of that.”

“My academic training in painting creates the bones of the work, then I take the forms and push them toward abstraction to create mystery,” she explains. “I hope visitors are able to feel a physical connection with the work rather than an intellectual one, and that they might experience nature with a fresh perspective.”
